Merck Serono is the division for innovative small molecules and
biopharmaceuticals of Merck KGaA. We are searching for a senior/principal
scientist, Modeling & Simulation (M&S), to strengthen our group dedicated
to projects in the Neurodegenerative Diseases and Auto-Immune &
Anti-Inflammatory Diseases areas.

Job description
As a successful candidate, you will influence trial designs and drug
development strategies, in collaboration with Clinical Pharmacologists,
Clinicians and Biostatisticians. Your main tasks and responsibilities are:=
 

Globally support the M&S department within Exploratory Medicine, as well
as Clinical Development Units, Clinical and Projects Teams
Provide M&S input into Clinical Development Plans
Plan, perform, interpret, present, track and record pharmacometric
activities within allocated projects and studies
Develop internal expertise in advanced population PKPD modeling, with
emphasis on physiological and mechanistic approaches and disease
progression models
Explore, evaluate and implement appropriate pharmacometric tools and
methodology, including Clinical Trial Simulation to support optimal design=
 
of clinical trials; participate to the improvement of the M&S processes
and technological platform
Keep up-to-date with scientific development in M&S, and regulatory
guidance and trends
Facilitate communication with authorities and all other stake-holders.


Qualifications
For this position, you would have acquired a PhD and at least 3-5 years
experience in population PKPD and drug disease models (of which at least
1-3 in the biopharmaceutical industry, with M&S input into drug
development).

Excellent command of NONMEM is an absolute prerequisite; good knowledge of=
 
complementary method(s) and software (MONOLIX, Bayesian software, TS2,
optimal pop PK/PD designs ?) would be an asset, together with knowledge of=
 
R/Splus, SAS or Matlab programming languages.
Interest in, and knowledge of both mathematical and (patho-)physiological
aspects of M&S in drug development is taken for granted. Good
communication skills in oral and written English are a must. You should
have high personal integrity, strong problem solving skills and ability to=
 
analyze complex problems, be a team-player, enthusiastic and
self-motivated, and at ease in working in a dynamic matrix organization.
The ability to discuss with external experts and CROs would round off your=
 
profile.
