Subject: What does "CENTERING" do?

Hi All

Can anyone please explain to me what "CENTERING" as a term in $ESTIMATION does? I have used it and can appreciate the results. I have read the manual which states that "Centering requests the average conditional estimate of each eta to be constrained to be close to zero", but what does it actually do within NONMEM - how does it do this?

Any info would be appreciated.

Regards

Steve

Please look at Guide VII Conditional Estimation Methods, March 1998. The method is defined on p. 7. Pages 13-14 should also be read carefully.
